Mountain Valley Retreat is located just 30 minutes south of Snowshoe Ski Resort and 15 minutes north of the quaint town of Marlinton, West Virginia. Nestled in the heart of Pocahontas County, West Virginia our cabin is close to all of the great activities this part of West Virginia has to offer!

Monongahela National Forest - Entry point in our backyard! Simply cross the stream in our backyard and you have entered into this treasured National Forest. The hiking possibilities are endless and yours for the making!

Edray State Trout Hatchery - Enjoy walking through the State's oldest fish hatchery. View rainbow, brook, brown and golden varieties of trout in various rearing ponds and chutes. Approx 10 min from cabin

Williams River and Lake Handley - We are located close to the Williams River - Various points of entry 5 - 15 minutes from cabin providing excellent spots for trout fishing. Lake Handley is a unique fishing pond especially suited for children and people with disabilities (fishing license required)

Highland Scenic Highway - Rt 150 A drive through this breathtaking corridor of the Monongahela National Forest is a visual masterpiece. Approx 15 minutes from cabin

Greenbrier River and walking/biking trail - A 79 mile rail-to-trail conversion that runs it's way through Pocahontas County. There is a trail entry point in downtown Marlinton. Approx 15 minutes from cabin

Pocahontas County Opera House Cultural events featuring various performing artists and musicians - event schedule posted regularly. Approx 20 min from cabin

Cass Scenic Railroad - Take a journey back into yesterday on an authentically restored steam locomotive. A must-see for the kids! Train-rides typically run from May - October. Approx 40 minutes from cabin

NRAO Observatory - Green Bank Telescope - This observatory hosts the world's largest fully steerable single aperature antenna. Weekly visitor's hours and specialty tours available. A must see for the whole family! Approx 40 min from cabin

Snowshoe Ski Resort - An all-weather resort featuring skiing, snowboarding and tubing in the winter and mountain biking and various other outdoor activities in the summer. Approx 30 minutes from cabin
